What is Villes Ouvertes?
Villes Ouvertes was founded in 2017 by Sasha de Laage, Cécile Kessler and Agathe Dupureur who were then studying political sciences at Sciences Po in France. Our organization has two main objectives: the first one is to prove that remodeling our cities towards more sustainable designs is a great source of opportunity and not a constraint. The second is to engage and inspire a new generation of change-makers who want to be part of the great transition that we must and will trigger.
Why?
The global population continues to grow, and by 2050, we will be more than 9 billion humans living on earth, with 70% of us living in urban areas. If we want to achieve sustainability as a species, we must re-think the way we build our cities in a more ecological, resilient and social way. And although our politics are struggling to take a major shift in the way we organize our societies, actors all over the world are coming up with solutions. We want to give them a voice. Doing so, we hope to inspire the youth and to re-empower the individuals that are the key to our global crisis.
